I was born in a crossfire hurricane and I howled at my ma in the driving rain.
That’s not true of course (but let me know if you know the source of that line). Even if it were, you’re not on this page because you’re interested in the details of my birth. You’re looking for my professional background. I give it to you as a narrative because I think it’s more interesting, but scroll down if you prefer a traditional resume.
On June 1, 2018, I started my own firm – Brown Law LLC – in Wilton, Connecticut to continue handling civil appeals and litigation, and defending foreclosures.
From March 2017 through May 2018, I was a principal in Gregory and Adams, P.C., also in Wilton, where I did the same kinds of things. G&A is a wonderful place to work. I left because the firm has been around for a long time, and I wanted to build something on my own.
I have had three foreclosure actions dismissed and prevented a lender from riding the municipality’s coat-tails in a tax foreclosure. These decisions were featured in both the legal and consumer press including the Connecticut Law Tribune, the Fairfield County Business Journal and the Commercial Record.
I’ve been to the Connecticut Supreme Court three times, the Connecticut Appellate Court many times, and the Second Circuit twice (decisions are listed below). All of my Connecticut appellate experience has come since 2010. The appeals have involved foreclosure defense and family law.
From February 2003 through February 2017, I was a partner in the Southport, Connecticut and Bronxville, New York law firm of Begos Brown & Green LLP and its predecessors.
From 2000 to 2003, I was a sole practitioner in Connecticut and New York. From 1998 to 2000, I worked for a company now known as Bottomline Technologies (it was “Law Audit Services” when I worked there) which audited lawyers’ bills for high volume purchasers of legal services (i.e., insurance companies). From 1992 to 1998, I worked in New York City for a 25 lawyer litigation firm.
For education, I went to St. John’s University School of Law and graduated, cum laude (had to get that in there for my mother’s sake), in 1992. I earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. I didn’t earn any honors there, or at least not the academic kind. I could blame that on my fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon, but I won’t. I did meet my wife there, which is the best thing that ever happened to me. I graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood, Queens, New York. I generally avoid hyperbole, but in my opinion Molloy is the best high school in the country – and that’s before considering academics.
